Company with the midas touch
InHaus Developments has taken two awards at the 2017 Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition for the Nelson/Marlborough/West Coast region. The company won gold and was the local category winner in the PlaceMakers new home $450,000 – $550,000 and won gold in the Resene new home up to $450,000 section and become a gold reserve finalist.
“Since 2006 everything we’ve entered has won gold demonstrating the consistently high levels of construction we achieve,” says company owner Russell Campbell.
The first award winning home is a 228 square metre architecturally inspired home designed for flexibility and ease of living.
Positioned at an angle from the rest of the house, the open-plan area includes large windows framing the views.
He says the layout is flexible with three bedrooms, including a master with walk-in robe and ensuite, separate bathroom, living/dining/kitchen hub and a walk-in pantry. All bedrooms connect to a multi use area.
Demonstrating the company’s versatility the other gold award winner is a bach located in Tasman and is a compact 98 square metre design with cedar cladding, plywood interior walls and polyurethane timber floor.
Russell liaised with the client to produce a simple, well designed and constructed bach that met their needs yet gave them the opportunity to interact together in the bach and enjoy time off.
Various outdoor options suit differing weather conditions. Large sliding doors allow sleeping spaces to be opened or closed to the rest of the bach as required.
InHaus is a boutique building company based in Nelson and was started by Russell and wife Tanya.
Russell, a Licensed Building Practitioner and current vice president of the Nelson Registered Master Builders Association, offers his clients over 30 years experience. Russell takes great pride in producing high quality truly distinct homes.
InHaus specialises in offering clients a personalised service with a focus on lifestyle and builds everything from modest holiday homes to large, luxury multi million dollar homes. With InHaus there are also no hidden surprises with true building costs made apparent upfront.
Contracts are fixed price so clients can be assured the build will be within their budget.
“At InHaus our clients don’t talk to a sales person they talk to us. We don’t employ contract builders we employ our own staff. This gives us really good control over quality and timing of projects.
“It means our clients get a personal building experience with one point of contact from beginning to end and know they will receive a high quality end product,” he explains.
Russell believes that his previous training as a joiner and the fact he has built a number of boats has given him a good eye for quality and attention to detail.
This is complemented by Tanya’s extensive experience in interior design, which is a huge asset.
InHaus is a true family business and the couple are proud that their son Shaun has now joined the team as a foreman.
Shaun completed his apprenticeship with the company and was awarded the prestigious National Apprentice of the Year title in 2015.
Russell says he takes pride in ensuring apprentices are fully trained in all aspects of construction from setting out a foundation to installing door locks.
He feels that this is important for the future of the building industry to produce quality tradespeople and at present InHaus has three apprentices.
Although mainly known for building award winning residential homes InHaus Developments also completes commercial projects such as the recently finished premises for Ultimate Roofing in Nelson.
The resulting 500 square metre contemporary style building has been constructed from concrete tilt panel and structural steel with metal tray wall cladding from Ultimate Roofing and cedar details.
“It’s a really smart looking building. It shows our diversity and that we can do anything,” says Russell. InHaus is presently undertaking its own residential development in Richmond, which will offer approximately 14 lots.
The two or three bedroom homes will be architecturally designed and aimed at the more mature market looking to downsize yet retain their upmarket lifestyle. Homes will be on the market next year but people can register interest now.
Russell says that clients frequently comment on how enjoyable and hassle-free all stages of the building process is with InHaus, something he takes great pride in.
This is reflected in the fact that most of their business comes through word of mouth and the fact that InHaus is busy with a strong workload.
