Going the extra mile in North Canterbury

Going the extra mile in North Canterbury
Gordon Homes North Canterbury completes a variety of projects, from hay barns to new homes and most things in between..

Maintaining friendly one-on-one contact with every client from the start of every job is a real priority for experienced Fernside-based builder Rick Gordon, founder of Gordon Homes North Canterbury Ltd.

“When you build a house with Gordon Homes you deal with me from the word go, not just any project manager. So if there are any problems, we can sort things out straight away.”

With 20 years’ experience in the region’s home building sector, Rick has buckets of local expertise and the know-how to complete a wide variety of building projects from hay barns to home renovations and new builds, fencing and landscaping.

From small cottages to large twostorey homes, Gordon Homes North Canterbury can accommodate all budgets and requirements.

Rick is a Licensed Building Practitioner with a trusted team that includes skilled subcontractors who have worked alongside him for many years. Gordon Homes North Canterbury is also a Registered Master Builders member.

A lot of the company’s work comes from previous satisfied clients with fresh building projects.

“With every house I build, I make more friends! People do often come back to me again.” As much as possible, Rick will work closely with clients to ensure the entire process goes smoothly.

Often he helps people to select and buy their section. With drafting and architectural services available
on request, he can also assist with drawing plans.

Similarly, he can call on a skilled interior designer to help with key areas, such as kitchen layout and design. He has the expertise to guide all those tricky details, such as picking colours and fittings.

By sourcing “the best product for the best price”, clients can also be assured of a great deal on all aspects of their home build.

“We get involved from day dot … we can even help with designing the backyard and the concrete work. We’re a real one-stop shop.”

While fewer investors are currently seeking spec home builds, Rick has maintained his own practice of building a house a year for himself.

“There’s currently one ready to go on the north side of Amberley.”

Gordon Homes North Canterbury has a couple of homes underway in Rangiora, one of which is a family home and the other being an investment property. “We also have another family home on the go in Fernside.”

On average, the company builds around 10 homes a year though that can vary depending on the complexities of particular projects.

Rick says he enjoys being family oriented in his work and home life. He has a nine-year-old son, a 12-year-old daughter and an eight-year-old step son who often accompany him out on the job.

Prior to founding Gordon Homes North Canterbury Ltd three years’ ago, Rick operated as Rick Gordon Building Ltd for some 15 years.

The name change reflects the dominant focus of the business on the region’s home building market.
