Stylish block answers school’s needs
The new $6.8 million 10-classroom block built by A-Line Construction at Whangarei Girls’ High School.

Ten new classrooms recently completed at Whangarei Girls’ High School have given the school the ability to manage a roll of 1440 students.

Designed and constructed by local company A-Line Construction, three of the classrooms in the new $6.8 million block are to replace ageing classrooms, while seven are to accommodate the growing school roll.

Located on the corner of Manse Street and Lupton Avenue, the building is constructed with precast concrete walls and structural steel supporting the unispan with a topping slab for the first floor.

The roof framing is structural steel with timber purlins with long-run coloursteel on a Cavibat ventilation system. All claddings are prefinished, with Urbanline soffits, Vitrabond fascia and composition cladding on the north face.

A-Line Construction project manager Daniel Abercrombie says that working in a live site always presents challenges but the key is thorough planning and liaison with all parties. “Communication is critical to the success of these projects.

Completing the design and construction of a 1000sqm two-level concrete panel building within 12 months was a challenge, however through determination, perseverance and a dedicated team we managed to achieve this and stay within the budget,” he says.

The project was completed on time for the staff to fift the building out for the first term of 2018 and Daniel says that the successful completion of the project demonstrates A-Line Construction’s ability to deliver a complete design and build package that is specifically designed to meet the client’s requirements and budget.

A-Line Construction offered a solution that met the requirements of both the school and the Ministry of Education which had significant savings in both time and cost from other designs offered by others while delivering an architectural, state-ofthe-art facility that is flexible, durable and modern,” he says.

Formed in 1993, A-Line Construction specialises in commercial, education and healthcare projects and is primarily focused on design and build construction.

Daniel says it is a simple approach to construction where the team works together with a client in clear communication and a focused partnership for a successful result.

“As every construction project has its own unique demands the design and build process means that we can tailor construction to meet all requirements while still ensuring quality, build-ability and, most importantly, being extremely cost effective.

“Our team’s ingenuity and problem solving ability means we can work together with our clients to create great environments,” he says.

“We believe that sitting at the same table with our clients is when great ideas are born, leading the way for innovative solutions that bring down costs, and make the construction more efficient and streamlined.”

Daniel says that A-Line Construction has built a notable track record of successful construction projects over a range of industries. Combined with the team’s expertise this has seen the company’s services in demand.

The company is mainly focus on projects in the North Island, concentrating on the current growth trends around the Auckland region.
